Man fatally shot in Cathedral City identified

A man fatally shot in Cathedral City last week has been identified.

23-year-old Jaime Antonio Monjaraz died at Desert Regional Medical Center on Friday night. Cathedral City Police Department Commander Paul Herrera confirmed the victim’s identity on Tuesday.

According to CCPD, Monjaraz was a Desert Hot Springs resident.

Monjaraz’s best friend, Alex Estrada, spoke with News Channel 3 exclusively. Estrada said Monjaraz left a huge impact on those around him.

“He’s definitely one of kind and he changes a lot of people’s lives. He touched a lot of people’s lives and he just made you feel special,” Estrada said.

On Friday, officers received several reports of a shooting at approximately 11:15 p.m. in the area of Navajo Trail and Corral Road, near Ramon Road. Five minutes later, officers arrived on scene and found two men on the sidewalk suffering from an unknown number of gunshot wounds.

Both men were rushed to Desert Regional Medical Center. The second victim’s condition and identity is unknown.

The homicide investigation remains ongoing, no other information is available at this time.

According to a flyer obtained by News Channel 3, a car wash fundraiser is being held on Saturday in Diamond Bar to benefit Jaime’s family and help pay for funeral costs.

It will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the parking lot of the Wienerschnitzel located at 23300 Sunset Crossing Road.
