Klobuchar, Biden and Buttigieg winners at satellite caucus in Palm Springs

There were 1,700 caucuses in Iowa, and dozens of satellite caucuses for Iowans who are away from home, including one in Palm Springs.

More than 100 Iowan voters flocked from across Southern California to the Palm Springs for their chance to show support to their candidates while out of state.

"We didn't think we’d get to caucus this year," said Kaylene Ruby. "We thought we would miss it all, but it's just wonderful."

"Iowans have spent the last many months going to rallies, parades, house parties, and meeting the candidates," said Allison Engle, organizer of the Palm Springs satellite caucus. "I've met 14 of them."

The crowd of 108 picked Biden, Buttigieg and Klobuchar as their big winners of the night. ​

What took place in Palm Springs mirrored the caucuses in Iowa, with voters moving across the room and standing by the candidates they support.

"You walk across the room and people try to get you to come to their side of the room," Ruby said. "It's a lot of, 'Move over here, please move over there."

Some voters came with their minds made up.

"I'm going to start with Amy – seems like they have a pretty good size group there," said Barb Lettween.

Others were ready to be swayed.

"I'm going to make up my mind what I'm going to do," said Pamela Burk. "I haven't made up my mind for sure yet."

Those in support of the winning candidates said they were excited for the prospects of the election.

"I was worried we wouldn't be viable," said Klobuchar supporter Joanne Johnson. "But seems like she's really popular with this group."

Iowan voters in Palm Springs said they're grateful to have their voices count.

"Very excited about being able to cast our vote in our caucus because we’re a long way from home," said Paul Ruby.
