President Trump has been acquitted on both articles of impeachment.

The first not-guilty vote, for abuse of power, came almost entirely along party lines, save for one dissenting vote from GOP Senator Mitt Romney from Utah.

The second not-guilty vote followed Republican-Democrat lines, save for two independents, who entered guilty votes.

Romney is the first senator in US history to vote to convict a president from the same party in an impeachment trial.

The final vote was 52-48. 67 votes would have been needed for a conviction.

The Senate vote on the second article of impeachment, obstruction of Congress, will follow.

The Senate will now vote on the second article of impeachment, obstruction of Congress.
