James Carter Elementary School in Palm Desert was placed on a brief lockdown Friday morning.
According to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, the school was lockdown as law enforcement was looking for a wanted suspect nearby.
"The suspect was near the school; therefore out of an abundance of caution, the school was placed on lockdown," writes Deputy Robyn Flores, public information officer for the Sheriff's Department.
The suspect was taken into custody and the lockdown was lifted.
The wanted suspect has not been identified and the Sheriff's Department did not reveal what they were wanted for outside that they had a warrant.
