Deputies search for suspect on Avenue 50 in Coachella

Alejandro Contreras, 28 of Coachella, was located hiding inside a property on Avenue 50. He was placed under arrest over six hours after the initial search began. Authorities later found several other firearms and thousands of rounds of ammunition.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Department is searching for a possibly armed suspect around Avenue 50 in Coachella.

According to Deputy Robyn Flores, at around 10:24 a.m., the department received a report that an individual brandished a weapon at another person on the 86500 block of Ave 50.

Flores did not specify what the weapon used was but did confirm that no one was injured.

There is no information on the suspect at this time.

Authorities have set-up a perimeter in the area. There is a road closure at Ave 50 and Highway 86, no word on when that roadway will be back open.

Viewers have called the newsroom to report seeing a helicopter and SWAT team in the area as well.
