Gov. Newsom started off today's news conference by speaking on the reopening of the beaches in Orange County. He said the images from the weekend showing thousands of people at the beach "are an example of what not to see" and "what not to do" during the pandemic.

Newsom urged the need for residents to continue following social distancing guidelines, noting, "This virus doesn't take the weekends off.''

On Monday, Colorado Governor Jared Polis and Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak announced their states would be joining California, Oregon and Washington in the Western States Pact.

The Western States Pact is a working group of Western state governors with a shared vision for modifying stay at home orders and fighting coronavirus.

“COVID-19 doesn’t follow state or national boundaries, and it will take every level of government, working together to get the upper hand on this virus,” Gov. Newsom said.
