Driver struck and killed by truck on the shoulder of Mecca roadway
Cal Fire Riverside officials confirmed a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle Friday afternoon in Mecca.
Cal Fire was first notified of the collision at approximately 2:12 p.m. near the intersection of State Route 86 and 66th Avenue.
A California Highway Patrol sergeant told News Channel 3 at the scene confirmed that the pedestrian was a driver of a tractor-trailer who was stopped on the right-hand shoulder of the roadway.
While the driver was checking their equipment, a big rig went slightly over the line and struck the driver. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
CHP confirmed the big rig left the scene. Authorities have not released a description of the big rig.
