Magnitude 5.5 earthquake strikes near Ridgecrest, felt in Coachella Valley

A magnitude 5.5 earthquake struck near Ridgecrest at approximately 6:32 p.m. Wednesday, according to the United States Geological Survey. The earthquake was felt around much of southern California including in the Coachella Valley.

The earthquake was initially recorded as a Magnitude 5.1, but the USGS upgraded it to a Magnitude 5.5 a few minutes later. The earthquake had a depth of a little over 4 miles.

Residents from up in the High Desert to throughout the Coachella Valley reported feeling the earthquake. It was also felt as far away as Las Vegas, Fresno, and Los Angeles.

According to the USGS, in the past hour before this magnitude 5.5, there was also a Magnitude 4.2 in Coso Junction, not far from Ridgecrest.

Small aftershocks immediately followed, including three in the magnitude 2.5 - Magnitude 2.7 in Trona, the same area as this Magnitude 5.5.

At this time, there were no immediate reports of any injuries or property damage.
