Cal Fire Riverside was able to rescue a hiker off the Bump and Grind Trail in Palm Desert Thursday morning.

First responders were called to the trail at around 11:44 a.m. to respond to a hiker in distress.

A Cal Fire official told News Channel 3 a female hiker was located "in severe distress" about six-tenths of a mile up the trail. The exact nature of the hiker's distress was not disclosed, but officials say she was in and out of consciousness.

Riverside County's Sheriff's Department's Star 9 helicopter was called in to help airlift the hiker and deliver her to a ground ambulance, who then rushed her to the hospital.
