Magnitude 5.5 earthquake near Ridgecrest was an aftershock of 2019 earthquake

On Thursday, a Magnitude 5.5 earthquake was centered just east of Ridgecrest at 6:32 p.m.

The earthquake had a depth of a little over 4 miles and was felt all across Southern California including many parts of the Coachella Valley.

There were no reports of injuries or damage to structures.

Seismologist Dr. Lucy Jones revealed that this earthquake was actually "a large late aftershock" of the Magnitude 7.1 earthquake that struck the area on July 5, 2019.

Last year's earthquake caused damage to buildings and homes.
