St. Francis of Assisi Church in La Quinta offering weekly food pantry to help those impacted by coronavirus

As families continue to be impacted by the coronavirus crisis, local community organizations continue to step up their efforts to help.

St. Francis of Assisi Church in La Quinta is another resource for anyone in need of groceries due to the pandemic.

According to a Facebook event online, anyone in need can call and make an appointment to come to the church and receive a basket of staple food items.

“It helps a lot because i’m out of work right now. Cereal...beans...the canned stuff,” said Arielle Esquivel, a resident of Palm Desert picking up groceries.

The church says the food pantry is open from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays each week. You don’t have to be a member of the church to receive assistance.

“Yeah it helps a lot especially if you have kids it helps with that too,” added Esquivel.

Organizers say they’re looking for donations from the community to keep providing food and products to those who need it the most. They have a detailed list on their Facebook event of things they’re looking for:

  • cereal
  • dried fruits
  • oatmeal
  • granola bars
  • shelf-stable milk
  • pasta sauce
  • pasta
  • canned tuna
  • canned chicken
  • dry beans
  • rice
  • baby formula
  • sugar
  • flour
  • soups
  • canned goods (veggies, fruit, etc.)

If you’d like to make a donation, you can just drop off items directly at the church, located at 47225 Washington St, La Quinta, CA 92253. For planned drop-off or for assistance to unload groceries, people should call the church’s office at 760.564.1255 Tuesdays through Thursdays from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM to schedule time and date.
