Nail salons now able to open indoors with modifications

Riverside county has now moved to the red tier allowing personal care services, like nail salons, to open indoors with modifications. Previously, in the purple tier, nail salons were only able to operate outdoors with modifications.

News Channel 3's Taban Sharifi spoke with Lori McGlynn, the manager for Salon 119 in Palm Springs. In response to nail salons moving to red tier she said, “It’s about darn time.” Salon 119 has been closed for quite some time and workers were relieved to hear they could finally open indoors. McGlynn said, “It couldn’t have happened at a better time. We are tired of having one third of this space, of Michielle’s business, at Salon 119 closed.” They also have a hair salon connected to the nail salon. The nail salon was bringing in one third of profits and the hair salon had to be at a limited capacity. For the latest updates on Salon 119, visit their website HERE. Salon 119 in Palm Springs

Holly Pham is the owner of Best City Nails in Indio. She has been doing her best to have operations outside but is relieved to move back indoors. She told News Channel 3, “Feel good, very happy, very happy about working tomorrow.” By tomorrow, meaning Wednesday September 23rd.

Best City Nails operation outdoors

With nail salons operating outside, they still took a hit as residents found it just too hot to be outside. Kima Zadeh, resident of Rancho Mirage said, “I believe the weather is way too hot for operating outdoors.” She said she is looking forward to the normalcy and much needed support for these local businesses reopening. Zadeh said, “I’ve been fine without them but at the same time i’m excited that you can get back to doing kind of somewhat your daily activities, but I am also very excited for the businesses themselves.”

Salon 119 has taken modifications seriously to make sure they do not need to close again. McGlynn said, “They will be temped at that door. They will call when they arrive to make sure their technician is ready.” They will also have a limited capacity and staggered schedules for workers. The nail salon will also have a seperate entrance than the hair salon. Salon 119 was not wasting anytime and was ready for an immediate open. McGlynn said, “Girls are here and ready and cleaned and sanitized, shielded, masked… we are ready.”

Other personal care services now available to reopen indoors with modifications include places like tattoo parlors, peircing shops, massage services, and skincare services.
