14-year-old arrested after shooting and crash in La Quinta Cove

A 14-year-old was arrested following a shooting in the La Quinta cove Tuesday night.

Deputies cordoned off with tape Avenida Diaz and Avenida Juarez on Calle Durango shortly after 9:00 p.m.

Deputies located evidence that a shooting had occurred once they arrived at the scene, according to a Sheriff's Department spokeswoman, Deanna Pecoraro.

Viewers in the area called and message the newsroom reporting hearing gunshots fired in the area. Information remained limited on Tuesday night, but the Riverside County Sheriff's Department released more details on Wednesday.

According to the Sheriff's Department, deputies responded to multiple reports of gunshots and vehicles leaving the area at a high rate of speed in the 53000 block of Avenida Diaz at around 9 p.m.

Deputies were also called to a to a second location at Calle Durango and Avenida Juarez regarding a crash related to the shooting. The suspect fled the crash scene and left behind a a Glock 17 9mm handgun with an empty 30 round magazine inserted.

Deputies later located the suspect, a 14-year-old, in the city of Coachella. The Sheriff's Department confirmed that the teen was positively identified as being involved. They were booked at the Indio Juvenile Hall.

Deputies also served a search warrant related to the shooting at the 53000 block of Avenida Diaz. Authorities reported seizing another Glock 9mm handgun and a multitude of high capacity magazines and drums.
