The City of Palm Springs announced Scott C. Stiles as its new city manager on Friday saying he will likely begin his new job on Monday, March 6.
“We are excited to welcome Scott Stiles to Palm Springs," said Mayor Grace Garner in a statement issued by the city. "With decades of experience in city administration, he brings a wealth of expert knowledge and a desire to improve systems, mentor staff as they advance in their careers, and collaborate with residents and stakeholders to move Palm Springs forward,” Garner continued. “Scott will be an outstanding leader and we are excited to welcome him to the Palm Springs community.”
Stiles is currently the City Manager for Garden Grove where he's worked for seven years. His employment contract will be before the Palm Springs City Council on January 26. He will begin on March 6 if approved by city leaders.
“The City of Palm Springs is one of the most vibrant, welcoming and diverse communities in the nation," said Stiles in a statement. "I am humbled and honored to be selected to lead this dynamic city and resort destination as it moves into the future,” Stiles added. “I look forward to collaborating with the City Council, community and staff and I am incredibly excited about this next step in my career."
A city statement said his major accomplishments have included work related to homelessness that involved a new mobile mental health program, a permanent supportive housing program, and mobilizing a regional effort to open an 85-bed Homeless Center.
Stiles also worked for the City of Cincinnati from 1987 to 2014.
Stiles holds a B.S. in Journalism and Geography from South Dakota State University and a Master of Community Planning from the University of Cincinnati. He graduated from the Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service’s Senior Executive Institute in Charlottesville, Virginia.
