Sheriff Pursuit ends in Indio with crash and road closure

Two people are in the hospital to after a pursuit in Indio ends with a crash near Interstate Ten on Friday afternoon.

According to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, a deputy spotted a reported stolen car in the area of Fred Waring Drive and Adams Street just before 11:30 a.m. Deputies attempted a traffic stop, but the driver took off. A pursuit was initiated.

Just before 11:45 a.m. the pursuit ended just South of Interstate Ten and Jackson Street in Indio, when the suspect vehicle crashed into another car, and rolled down an embankment. Cal Fire crews were called in to help rescue the driver from the scene, and was able to hoist the suspect into a nearby ambulance. The suspect sustained minor injuries and has been transported to a local hospital.

The driver in the other car was not hurt, but a passenger in that car, was transported to the hospital with a complaint of pain.

The roadway was shut down for about an hour while crews worked to clear the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
