16-year-old boy killed in a shooting at La Quinta Kohl’s parking lot, teen suspect detained

A 16-year-old boy was killed in a shooting at the La Quinta Kohl's parking lot early Monday morning.

According to the Riverside County Sheriff's Office, they responded to a possible shooting in the parking lot of Kohl's shopping Center, located on the 78-000 block of Highway 111 just before 2:00 am Monday.

RSO officials said they found a 16-year-old with a gunshot wound inside the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Central Homicide Unit later responded and assumed the investigation. The investigation revealed the teen was shot inside the vehicle by a 17-year-old male juvenile, who has been identified, RSO confirmed.

The 17-year-old was detained at the scene, authorities confirmed.

The identities of the victim and suspect will not be released.
