DSUSD students return to school

Desert Sands Unified School District students returned to school on Tuesday for the 2023-2024 school year.

It's another year of learning for many students. For some students, it's their very first time entering a classroom.

How can you as a parent address the first day of school jitters? The American Academy of Pediatrics offers the following advice for parents to help their child through the first day.

  • If your child is nervous, talk to them about their worries and help them problem-solve.
  • Point out the positives of starting school and things they can look forward to.
  • Arrive at school early to cut down on any stress.

If you're driving in a school zone, police officials are asking the public to make sure everyone is driving the posted speed limit and keeping an eye out for little ones.

For those who are walking to school, you should be on sidewalks at all times and using crosswalks to cut through traffic.
