Palm Springs International Airport asks travelers to check status prior to arriving ahead of Hilary

The Palm Springs International Airport (PSP) is asking passengers to check their flight status ahead of time before traveling to the airport. Representatives for the airport say that this is the best way to ensure passenger safety and reduce disruptions ahead of Tropical Storm Hilary as they anticipate the impact.

A comprehensive storm plan has been activated by the airport to ensure the safety of staff, passengers and operations. It includes different measures such as calling in additional staff members as needed, activating tested backup systems, and coming up with plan to make sure passengers and staff are safe in case of power outages or other storm-related incidents.

The airport says they have tested all backup power generators and are ready to provide power when needed. The facility has also been inspected and storm drains have been thoroughly cleaned to mitigate potential flooding. Sandbags have also been strategically placed as preventative measure.

"Our dedicated airport staff is fully prepared to meet the challenges of the impending tropical
storm," assured Harry Barrett, Executive Director of Aviation at PSP in a press release. "Their unwavering commitment to preparedness is evident as they activate our comprehensive storm event plan. With additional personnel on standby, tested backup systems, and meticulous safety measures in place, our team's efforts underscore our determination to ensure the safety and well-being of all passengers, staff, and operations throughout this storm."

Officials for the airport say it's difficult to predict the exact number of disruptions the storm will bring, but they will be anticipating several over the upcoming days. They encourage passengers to check with their airlines directly as they have the most up to date information on whether their flight has been canceled or delayed due to the storm.
