A vigil is being held at La Quinta Civic Center Park on Saturday, marking two years since Corporal Hunter Lopez lost his life in Afghanistan.

The vigil is going to be held on August 26 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The address is 78495 Calle Tampico in La Quinta.

Corporal Lopez and his family will be honored during the ceremony. There are also plans to unveil the city's Gold Star Monument.

The City of La Quinta said the monument is a way to honor the La Quinta families of military members who gave their lives while serving their country.

The names on the monument now include Corporal Lopez and U.S. Army Staff Sergeant James Perez.
