Locals offer a helping hand to other locals in need after Tropical Storm Hilary

Since Tropical Storm Hilary hit the Coachella Valley, it's been all hands on deck getting things cleaned up. For one Cathedral City neighborhood, people have come out day after day to help however they can.

Dozens of homes from the Panorama neighborhood in Cathedral City were damaged by the storm. Residents were in disbelief that something like this happened in their desert town.

While the city has worked on clean-up efforts, locals are also helping those impacted whether it's by grabbing a shovel or donating items.

The aftermath of the storm has shown what it truly means to be a community said Imelda Figueroa, one of the homeowners impacted by the storm.

“If you ask me how I feel, I have mixed emotions," she said. "Emotions of looking at my community destroyed, but emotions of happiness to see all of the community come out and help.”

Residents from all over the Coachella Valley have already come out to help the impacted families.

“When someone is in pain and hurting and has a situation I think any of us who can, should," said Rancho Mirage resident Patricia Perez who helped with clean up efforts.

While the road to recovery seems out of reach for now for some of these homeowners, it's all of the neighborhood heroes contributing their time and energy to help them get there.
