Woman dead, man seriously injured after motorcycle crash on I-10 near Palm Drive exit
A motorcyclist is injured and his passenger has died after a crash on Interstate 10 Thursday morning.
The crash was initially reported at around 11:25 a.m. on the westbound side of the I-10, just east of the Palm Drive exit.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the rider and his passenger were traveling 70 MPH in a Harley Davidson on the #1 lane.
"It appears the rear tire separated and caused them to turn to the left and overturn," writes CHP officer David Torres.
The motorcyclist suffered major injuries, while his passenger sustained "moderate to major" injuries, CHP initially reported. Torres later confirmed that the passenger died in the hospital.
The passenger was identified by authorities as Cheryl McCoy, 68, of Phoenix, Arizona.
Torres said alcohol and drugs are not suspected. Both were wearing their helmets.
