Texas AG Ken Paxton’s impeachment trial is almost over. This is what’s happened and what’s next

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s impeachment trial is almost over, with his political future now in the hands of the state Senate. Senators finished deliberating Saturday, with a vote on whether to remove him from office set for later in the day. That jury is made up of 30 state senators, and most are Republicans like him. Much of the testimony about corruption allegations the past two weeks came from a group of Paxton’s former aides, some of whom reported him to the FBI. It will take 21 of the 30 voting senators to convict Paxton. He will be permanently removed from office if convicted of any of the 16 impeachment articles.
