2nd annual Suicide Prevention Conference to be held Thursday in Rancho Mirage

Riverside County

Riverside County's second annual Suicide Prevention Conference, which organizers said will focus on the transformative impact of faith on mental health, will be held Thursday in Rancho Mirage.

"Faith leaders are often on the front lines in communities, making their involvement in mental health and suicide prevention crucial,'' Riverside University Health System Director Dr. Matthew Chang said in a statement. "Our goal is to give them the tools and information necessary to make a real difference."

The conference, themed "Creating Hope Through Action: Bridging the Gap Between Spirituality and Suicide Prevention,'' will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at the Agua Caliente Resort Casino, 32 250 Bob Hope Drive. It will be open to local agencies, nonprofits, faith-based leaders and anyone
who wants to learn, share and network.

Karen Mason, who has more than 33 years of experience in the mental health field and is known for her suicide prevention work within faith communities, will be a keynote speaker at the conference, county officials said.
