Woman in critical condition after being hit by car in Palm Springs

Palm Springs Police confirms that a woman is in critical condition after being hit by a car Tuesday night. According to PSPD officials they got a call just after 7:00 p.m. of a pedestrian being struck by a car on East Palm Canyon Drive, East of Araby Drive.

When officers got on scene, they found a woman lying in the roadway with head injuries and was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

Tamara Wadkins, Spokesperson for Palm Springs Police, wrote in a response to KESQ-TV, "The driver of the car who struck the pedestrian was traveling westbound on East Palm Canyon Drive in heavy traffic, when they saw other cars breaking and swerving, and then slowed down. Suddenly, a pedestrian ran in front of their car.  The driver was not able to stop in time and collided with the pedestrian, causing significant injuries. "

The roadway was shut down for several hours while they investigated the crash. The driver was cooperative and the traffic team determined the driver was not DUI nor at fault, in the collision.
