RivCo DA honors trailblazing prosecutor Sue Steding with a plaque at Indio office

The Riverside County District Attorney's office revealed a plaque in honor of one of the first female prosecutors in the county.

Sue Steding retired in 2010 after nearly 34 years of service.

"I am so honored to be remembered for my career. Not everybody gets a chance to feel what I'm feeling right now," Steding told News Channel 3.

"She's being honored today because her leadership skills are among the best that have ever come through this office," Riverside County District Attorney Mike Hestrin said.

Steding was the first female prosecutor in the desert when she started in 1976. She was also the first assistant district attorney and the first chief assistant district attorney.

The plaque of Steding was unveiled at the DA's Indio office. In 2021, Steding was honored with a plaque at the Riverside office as well.
