Suspect in custody after 2+ hour standoff at Palm Desert Walmart parking lot

A suspect was taken into custody Tuesday evening after a nearly three-hour standoff in the Palm Desert Walmart store parking lot.

The domestic violence incident was first reported at 6:24 p.m., according to police.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Office told News Channel 3 that deputies were called to the 34000 block of Monterey Avenue in Palm Desert for a report of domestic violence.

"The victim told dispatch her boyfriend had been physical with her and threatened to hurt her. The victim was able to make it inside a business to call 911, while the suspect remained in a parked vehicle in the parking lot," reads an email from the agency.
