Yucca Valley substitute teacher accused of hitting student in classroom

A 71-year-old substitute teacher is accused of hitting a 15-year-old student in a classroom at Yucca Valley High School.

The incident was reported Monday at around 8:30 a.m.

Upon learning of the incident, YVHS immediately contacted the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department and launched an investigation into the matter. The teacher involved was removed from the school.

"... the student was not injured as a result of the confrontation," reads a news release by the Sheriff's Dept.

Administrative and criminal investigations were immediately launched.  After those investigations, the Morongo Unified School District placed the substitute teacher on administrative leave.

According to MUSD, Sheriff's Dept. investigators stated that they received conflicting reports regarding the incident. They filed a report with their findings which is being forwarded to the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office for review and potential filing of criminal charges.

"The MUSD does not condone any form of violence. We are committed to maintaining a learning environment that is safe, respectful and conducive to the academic and personal development of every student," reads a MUSD news release.
