Suspect injured after deputy-involved shooting in Palm Desert home off Highway 74

A suspect was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after a deputy-involved shooting occurred early Sunday morning in Palm Desert.

Deputies first received reports of a burglary along the 49000 block of State Highway 74 at 2:45 a.m. Sunday.

The residents who called the police said they were hiding in a bedroom but could hear someone inside their home.

Deputies arrived, detected an unsecured door and proceeded to enter the home. There they found and detained one subject.

Moments later a second suspect appeared from a back room with a knife. The suspect refused to drop the knife, ignoring orders resulting in a deputy-involved shooting.

The first suspect was later taken to the station for questioning and later released.

Meanwhile, the identity of the suspect who was injured has not been released at this time.

According to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, the involved deputy will be placed on administrative leave, according to department policy. That deputy's identity has not been released.
