Spectators undeterred by wet and rainy final day of the American Express Tournament

Golf fans braved the wind and rain to take in the final day of the American Express PGA Tournament in the Coachella Valley.

Sunday, News Channel Three issued a First Alert Weather Alert that extends though Monday because of the expected rainfall.

The First Alert Weather Team has issued a First Alert Weather Alert as wet weather arrives this weekend. While spotty showers will continue through today, heavier, more widespread rain is expected for Monday. Localized flooding and travel issues are concerns for the start of the work week.

However, the American Express continued throughout the day despite the weather.

Fans like Lincoln Webster, came in from all over the world to watch the professionals hit the green rain or shine.

“It was at first we wanted to leave but we kind of stuck through it because we wanted to watch the golfers and it was the towards the end of the tournament so we thought we might as well just stick around," said Webster. "This is a once in a lifetime opportunity.”

Ava Plass, a retail associate with the PGA West Tournament Clubhouse, says her team was prepared for a rainy morning, and they had plenty of gear to keep fans dry.

“I got here very early and fans were coming out a little bit slower paced than usual," Plass said. "But they came to us in the tent and we were able to give them some ponchos and warm and waterproof items like sweatshirts. We really moved a lot of that merchandise this morning. Everybody's just excited to watch their favorite player finish.”

According to the American Express website, tournament organizers recommend fans check the weather before they head out to the courses. And their guidebook says umbrellas were permitted as long as they don't have a sleeve.
