Big rig overturns, spills apple juice on freeway in downtown Riverside
A tractor-trailer hauling a load of apple juice overturned today at the 60/91/215 interchange in downtown Riverside, spilling juice all over a transition ramp, forcing the California Highway Patrol to shut it down.
The crash happened just after 6 a.m. on the eastbound Pomona (60) Freeway transition to northbound Interstate 215, according to the CHP.
The agency said the big rig went over in the No. 3 lane, causing the apple juice to spill out in massive quantities and saturate the entire connector, as well as a surface street below.
The trucker escaped uninjured. It was unclear whether other vehicles were involved.
Officers closed the transition when motorists began spinning out on the juice-slicked roadway.
A SigAlert was issued at 6:15 a.m. and remained in effect as of 11 a.m. due to the closure and ongoing cleanup.
