Alleged drunk driver crashes into power pole causing outage and traffic backup in Indio

We have learned IID crews are working to repair power lines after a crash Sunday morning.

It happened before 8 a.m. at Clinton and Highway 111.

Investigators with Indio Police tell us the driver of a white jeep hit two power poles, and two fire hydrants. The crash also damaged the roof of a nearby business.

IPD says power outage caused by the accident affected about 1,000 customers, but as of 3 p.m. Sunday IID says it's working to restore power to 4 remaining customers.

A spokesperson with Indio Police says the department is asking drivers to avoid Highway 111 Eastbound between Clinton and Madison.

We are told the stretch is down to one lane possibly through Monday morning.

The driver was reportedly not hurt and is accused of driving under the influence.
