First Alert Weather Alert: Local flood risk and heavy mountain snow
An atmospheric river continues to impact Southern California, delivering heavy rain to parts of Riverside County and creating the threat of flooding.
While the highest rainfall totals will stay west of the desert, the Coachella Valley can still experience flooding, especially through the washes and low-lying areas. A Flood Watch will last through early Wednesday morning due to the slow-moving nature of this system.
As of 3PM Tuesday, Whitewater has received more than 2" of rain, while Desert Hot Springs has seen over 8 tenths of an inch. The Palm Springs Int'l Airport has seen roughly half an inch.
Throughout the day there remains a chance for more showers, or even a thunderstorm, to move onto the valley floor.
A Winter Storm Warning will remain in effect for local mountain communities above 6,000' through 8 AM Thursday. An additional 1 to 2 feet of snow if possible at elevations above 7,000 feet. Travel will be difficult.
The chance of showers lingers through Friday, with drier conditions for the weekend. Temperatures hover in the low to mid-60s through the weekend.
