USPS mail truck burns down while making deliveries in Indio

A United States Postal Service truck burned down while making deliveries in the city of Indio Wednesday afternoon.

The fire happened near the area of Barcelona Avenue and Gibraltar Street at around 4:30 p.m.

Duke Gonzales, a spokesperson for the USPS, told News Channel 3 that the vehicle was stopped and the mail carrier was not in the vehicle when the fire started.

The carrier was not injured, Gonzales confirmed.

Gonzales said it's unknown how much mail was lost in the blaze, the incident remains under investigation.

There is no word on what might've started the fire.
