Road closures in place for Tour de Palm Springs
The Tour de Palm Springs returns to the Coachella Valley this weekend. Drivers are advised to be aware of road closures in areas where thousands of cyclists will run by.
This year’s event kicks off with an Expo on Friday, Feb. 9 from noon – 8 p.m. with bike ride and walking tours on Saturday, Feb. 10.
Riders begin their departure on Saturday at 6:15 a.m. in downtown with the final group of walkers departing at 10 a.m.
Beginning Friday, Feb. 9 starting at 6 a.m. Palm Canyon Drive between Baristo Road and Tahquitz Canyon will be closed for Expo setup. In addition, Saturday, Feb. 10, Tahquitz Canyon Drive between Palm Canyon and Indian Canyon will be closed starting at 5 a.m. to set up for rider departure and return. Tahquitz Canyon will be closed from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Some roads in downtown Palm Springs will be impacted on Saturday, Feb. 10 due to bikers on the road. Impacted roads include Tahquitz Canyon Way, Avenida Caballeros, Baristo, El Cielo, Mesquite and Dinah Shore.
The Palm Springs Police Department would like to remind drivers to please stay patient and mind traffic laws while sharing our roadways. Cyclists are required to obey all traffic laws.
There won't be road closures in La Quinta, but city officials want to remind drivers to be extra mindful of cyclists on Ave 48, Adams St, and Madison St.
This year’s event honors first responders, military, and veterans. Since its founding in 1998, Tour de Palm Springs has raised more than $4 million for local charities.
