Riverside County Sheriff’s deputy hospitalized after crash east of Temecula

A Riverside County sheriff's deputy was injured today in a two-vehicle wreck just east of Temecula.

The crash happened about 4:50 p.m. on Highway 79 at Pacific Sunset Drive, according to the California Highway Patrol.   

The agency said the sheriff's patrol vehicle and a car collided, but the circumstances were unclear.

The deputy was trapped inside the unit as a result of the impact, suffering non-life-threatening injuries.

County fire crews reached the location minutes later and extricated the lawman. Sheriff's officials confirmed that he was taken to a regional trauma center for treatment.

The other motorist did not require medical attention.   

No road closures were implemented due to the collision.   

The CHP was handling the investigation.
