East valley ranch owners close to finalizing new event facility ordinance with Riverside County

Discussions on a new land-use ordinance for events at rural properties in the Coachella Valley have picked back up between the Riverside County Planning Department and ranch owners in the east.

Last April, the Board of Supervisors voted to start the process of amending the County's noise ordinance in response to concerns about enforcement from ranch operators.

The Planning Department has been analyzing different ways to measure and regulate noise and bring back recommended ordinance changes.

Last March, Fourth District Supervisor V. Manuel Perez directed the Planning Department to create a new County ordinance that could be a first of its kind in establishing a new land-use category for Ranchos in the Coachella Valley.

Last Friday, a group of ranch owners attended a community meeting hosted by the County to discuss the framework of new rules that are in the works.

We are checking in with one of those ranch owners and the County to see where the process currently stands.
