Trick-or-treaters beware! Tracking rain chances late on Halloween and into Sunday

THOUSAND PALMS, Calif. (KESQ) – Happy Halloween, everyone! If you're out trick-or-treating tonight, stay safe and prepare for some potential showers.

Be sure to keep an umbrella handy and bundle up along with your costumes! If you're driving home from any late-night Halloween parties, rain chances are favoring the overnight hours.

So far, Doppler radar is showing moisture approaching from the south. We've had just a couple of blips on the radar from some spotty showers over the valley up to this point.

Chances for showers begin moving in around 8 to 9 o'clock tonight.

Chances increase further into the night and we expect to see more moderate, widespread showers throughout Southern California. By Sunday morning, though, the rain should become lighter and more sporadic.

Models still vary in terms of rainfall totals, but most estimates aren't too impressive. We're seeing amounts less than a tenth of an inch for most valley cities, with higher estimates staying closer to 0.3 to 0.4 inches. Most of the flooding concern is for locations well to our east, like portions of Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah.

Drier and warmer conditions return for much of the week, though we're still set to stay below seasonal. Highs rebound into the 80s by Tuesday – fantastic for the start of November!
