34-year-old arrested in connection with stabbing in downtown Palm Springs

A 34-year-old man suspected of stabbing a person in downtown Palm Springs Tuesday morning was arrested.

The stabbing was reported at around 5:40 a.m. on the 400 block of E Arenas Road, near El Segundo.

Police said a man called asking for help but was unable to provide specific details.

"Upon arriving at the scene, officers heard a male voice inside the residence in apparent distress. After making entry, officers discovered a man suffering from significant injuries consistent with an assault," writes Lt. Gustavo Araiza, spokesperson for Palm Springs Police Dept.

The victim told officers he had been stabbed but did not identify the assailant, Araiza wrote. The victim was taken to the hospital, where he is currently listed in serious but stable condition.

At around 9:15 a.m., police received a call from a man at the 100 block of N. Sunrise Way in Palm Springs claiming to have been assaulted Monday night.

Officers made contact with the caller, who was determined to have been the suspect in the earlier stabbing incident.

The suspect, a 34-year-old man from Cathedral City, faces attempted murder charges. He is being booked at the John Benoit Detention Center in Indio.
