Rep. Raul Ruiz hosts rally ahead of Donald Trump’s Coachella Valley visit
Congressman Dr. Raul Ruiz hosted a rally Wednesday afternoon in Sun City Palm Desert.
Ruiz's came after former President Donald Trump announced his plans to host a rally in the Coachella Valley on Saturday.
Hundreds of people attended the rally on Wednesday including Roberta and Ken Lyon.
"We've supported him before and we're excited to have him right here at home," Roberta said.
During his speech, Ruiz talked about reproductive rights, economic freedom and the critical need to vote.
"I want to tell people to make sure they get their ballot," Ruiz said. "Make sure they send it in right away."
He also spoke about former President Trump's visit to Coachella Valley.
"The ex-President is in the wrong place because he's not in a swing district. He's in the wrong time because there's only 29 days left to vote," Ruiz said. "He has the wrong message because he wants to take us back to the chaos and the favoritism for millionaires and billionaires at the expense of middle class."
Local resident Barbara Emhoff — mother of Vice President Kamala Harris's husband, second gentleman Doug Emhoff, also attended the rally.
Ken Lyon said he was glad to see a large turnout at the rally.
"As Kamala says when we fight we win," Ken said. "We're going to fight."
