Coachella Valley districts address safety following Wisconsin school shooting
Parents across the country are on edge following Monday's school shooting at Abundant Life Christian School, killing a student and teacher.
Here at home, families are asking about safety measures in place throughout Coachella Valley schools.
News Channel 3's Shay Lawson is holding district officials accountable to see what's being done locally to keep kids safe.
Desert Sands Unified School District officials said it has several preventative measures in place.
Assistant Superintendent of Student Support Services Laura Fisher said these include keeping the classroom doors locked and a new anonymous reporting system for students and staff.
"Our Say Something Anonymous Reporting System started this year and it's been really a great system to have," Fisher said. "There's a person that's on the other line, the person is texting to be able to ask more questions. That immediately goes to our security staff and the district."
The Palm Springs Unified School District sent News Channel 3 a statement about its safety policies.
"Our security department coordinates with local law enforcement agencies on emergency preparedness. We conduct active shooter trainings at each school site once per year, and we just had that training at our district office last Friday. All staff has received ALICE training (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate). When there is a school emergency we communicate with parents immediately via our ParentSquare system, which sends alerts via phone, email and text."
