MECCA, Calif. (KESQ) - Two people were pronounced dead after a crash Friday morning in Mecca.

The crash was first reported at around 10:15 a.m. near the intersection of Grant Street and 68th Avenue.

CHP officer David Torres said that a red Toyota Tacoma was driving northbound on Grant when it collided with a black Toyota Tundra heading westbound on 68th.

As the two vehicles made contact, the Tundra overturned and struck a power pole, injuring a man and a woman inside the vehicle, Torres said. CHP records indicated that both occupants succumbed to their injuries at the scene within 25 minutes.

A 25-year-old man inside the Tacoma sustained minor injuries from the crash, according to Torres.

The pole that was struck remained upright, CHP records indicated.

Torres said that alcohol and drugs are not suspected as a factor. The identities of the victims have yet to be publicly released, as of Friday afternoon.
