17-year-old girl killed in a shooting at Mecca apartment complex

MECCA, Calif. (KESQ) - A 17-year-old girl was pronounced dead after a shooting early Wednesday morning in Mecca.

The shooting was first reported at around 1:00 a.m. at the Mecca II Apartments on the 91800 block of 66th Avenue.

According to the Riverside County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon. When they arrived at the scene, they found a 17-year-old girl with apparent gunshot wounds.

The girl was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office Central Homicide Unit has assumed the investigation.

There were no additional details available as of Wednesday morning, including whether any arrests were made.
