Coachella Valley parents find alternatives to traditional trick or treating
PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (KESQ) - Halloween is coming up, and although it's a fun time for children and people of all ages, it can also be dangerous at night when trick or treating. In recent years, many families have turned to community-organized trick or treat events to keep kids safe. News Channel 3 was live at the Palm Springs Public Library Rimrocktober Halloween event.
Indio Police Department's Officer Brandon Haworth says that if parents take their kids out trick or treating on Halloween night, they should choose well-lit streets to avoid potential accidents. He also says that if kids want to wear dark costumes, parents should add embellishments that will make them more visible, "an illumination stick to them, maybe some reflective tape on them or or have them actually just hold a flashlight."
