Person Suffers Critical Injuries Following Vehicle Rollover on I-10

DESERT CENTER (CNS) - One person suffered critical injuries after a vehicle overturned and then caught fire today on westbound Interstate 10 near Desert Center.

The crash was reported shortly before 1 p.m. Friday east of Red Cloud Road off-ramp, according to the Riverside County Fire Department. The agency stated that arriving crews encountered a single-vehicle that had caught fire, which was extinguished at 1:22 p.m. The injured individual was taken to a local hospital via helicopter. No other injuries were reported.

A black Hyundai SUV traveling at unspecified rate of speed on eastbound I-10, west of Eagle Mountain, lost control and overturned into the westbound lanes, where it landed on its roof and caught on fire, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Lanes on both sides were temporarily closed to land a helicopter. The injured individual, whose identity was not revealed, was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs. Westbound and eastbound lanes have re-opened as of 4 p.m.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.
