Desert Regional offers low-dose radiation therapy for osteoarthritis

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (KESQ) — Desert Regional Medical Center is offering low-dose radiation therapy as a treatment option for some patients with mild to moderate osteoarthritis.

The treatment, offered through the hospital’s Comprehensive Cancer Center, uses low doses of radiation in an effort to reduce inflammation and relieve joint pain.

Radiation therapy is commonly associated with cancer treatment, but doctors can also use it for certain noncancerous conditions.

Patients should ask whether low-dose radiation is appropriate for their specific condition and discuss the potential risks and benefits before starting treatment. Patients should consult their health care provider about the options best suited to their needs.
