Coachella mayor’s race remains undecided as vote count continues

COACHELLA, Calif. (KESQ) — Denise Delgado continues to lead the race for Coachella mayor as election officials work to count the remaining ballots.

The latest results show Delgado ahead of incumbent Mayor Frank Figueroa, Jesus Gonzalez and Francisco Molina.

If the results hold, Delgado would make history as the first woman elected mayor of Coachella.

Delgado has highlighted her experience in city government and her connection to the community throughout her campaign.

Figueroa, who is seeking another term, said he remains optimistic as more votes are counted.

Residents are also watching the results closely, with one telling News Channel 3 that the top candidates remain relatively close and that the final count will help determine the city's next leader.

The mayoral race comes after a year of change and controversy in Coachella, including the resignation of former Mayor Steven Hernandez and debate surrounding a proposed data center project.
