‘Superfog’ made of fog and marsh fire smoke blamed for car crashes, road closures in Louisiana
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Sections of Interstate 55 near the south Louisiana community of Manchac are resembling a junkyard of mangled cars as a result of morning crashes blamed on a “superfog” of smoke from marsh fires and dense morning fog. School buses were being used Monday to transport stranded drivers away from the mess. The lack of visibility also prompted closures of parts of I-10 and the 24-mile Lake Pontchartrain Causeway at times. On social media, the National Weather Service said there were several wetland fires in the region. State police at midday said they had not determined the number of injuries or whether there were any fatalities.
