CSU Fullerton student dies of possible alcohol poisoning after fraternity event

FULLERTON, Calif. (KESQ) - Fullerton police asked for the public's help Tuesday in the investigation of the death of an 18-year-old Cal State Fullerton student who died of possible alcohol poisoning after attending a fraternity event.   

Police were called to St. Jude Medical Center shortly after midnight Sunday after the unconscious student was dropped off at the emergency room. The student, Anthony Joseph Blas, was later pronounced dead at the hospital, police said.

Earlier in the evening, Blas was at an "unaffiliated'' fraternity gathering at Associated Road and Milton Avenue, police said.   

Investigators said drinking appears to have contributed to his death, but an official cause of death was pending and could take several weeks to determine.

Police do not suspect hazing was a factor in Blas' death, police said. Foul play was also not suspected.  

Investigators declined to say who dropped Blas off at the hospital or if detectives had spoken to the person, Fullerton police Sgt. Ryan O'Neil said.
