Riverside County Superior Court extends closure to May 1

Riverside County Superior County is extending its temporary closure until May 1, 2020.

Some courts around the county are continuing to operate in a limited capacity, handling only emergency matters affecting public health and safety as outlined on the court’s COVID-19 Court Operations website.

The Larson Justice Center in Indio is one of the few courthouses that remain open.

If you have a court date during this time.  You will receive notice of your continuance/case status. You may also check the status of your case by visiting the Court Records / Public Access Page.

Jurors who have received a summons for service should not report during this period of time. Please check your status by utilizing one of the following options:

Limited Emergency Matters (by Case Type)

Criminal

  • The court will continue to hear in-custody arraignments for both misdemeanor and felony cases, preliminary hearings, bail motions, priority sentencing hearings and accept gun violence restraining orders.
  • All criminal jury trials are continued for 60 days.
  • Daytime Emergency Protective Order (EPO) and Search Warrants will be accepted.

Civil

  • The court will continue to accept temporary civil harassments, other types of temporary civil restraining orders, and ex parte applications. All civil temporary restraining orders that would otherwise expire from March 17, 2020 to March 31, 2020 may be extended not more than 30 days.
  • Unlimited and limited civil trials are suspended until May 25, 2020.
  • All other matters will be continued until April 17, 2020.
  • ADR and Mediation Services will be suspended.

Family Law

  • The court will continue to accept ex parte domestic violence restraining order requests and ex parte applications.
  • Daytime Emergency Protective Order (EPO) calls will still be accepted.
  • All other family law matters will be continued.
  • CCRC Appointments (mediation) will be continued.

Probate

  • The court will continue to hear temporary guardianship and temporary conservatorship cases, LPS conservatorships, accept ex parte elder abuse restraining orders and ex parte applications.
  • All other probate matters will be continued.
  • Probate Investigator in-person interviews are postponed until further notice.

Juvenile Delinquency

  • The court will continue to hear detention hearings, jurisdiction/disposition matters when the minor is detained, detention hearings on 777 petitions when the minor is detained and 15-day review hearings and ex parte applications.
  • All other juvenile delinquency matters will be continued.

Juvenile Dependency

  • The court will continue to hear detention hearings, requests to re-enter foster care restraining order applications and ex parte applications.
  • All other juvenile dependency matters will be continued.

Traffic

  • All traffic matters are postponed for 90 days. Traffic court trials will be postponed for 60 days, until May 22, 2020.
  • Night Court traffic matters will be suspended for 90 days and matters already scheduled will be continued.

Unlawful Detainers

  • All unlawful detainer matters are postponed for 60 days, except for ex parte applications, until May 25, 2020.

Other

  • The court will continue to hear Riese matters.
  • Emergency writs challenging COVID-19 measures.
  • Writs of Habeas Corpus challenging medical quarantines.
