The medically-undeserved areas of the East Valley will see increased coronavirus testing.

Coachella Valley Volunteers in Medicine parternered with the Galilee Center, the Office of Congressman Raul Ruiz, M.D., and Hemet Valley Medical Center, and an anonymous donor to provide 200 COVID-19 antigen tests to the area.

The groups hope to increase testing among the farmworkers in the Mecca area. Many of the small communities in the East Valley have numerous confirmed cases, including Mecca, who has 23 cases.

Increased testing will continue to help determine the scope of coronavirus in the area and better assist in coming up with plans on preventing the spread.

No appointment is necessary and will be free. Testing will be underway Wednesday afternoon from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Mecca Catholic Church on 65100 Dale Kiler Road in Mecca.
